JUNJI OSAWA, OWNER CHEF | J’S CORNER GRILL
Junji Oosawa started his cooking career in Tokyo as a French chef at a wedding venue operated by Japan Railways (formerly JNR). In his mid-twenties, he moved to the U.S. and helped open Hawaii Edataya in Los Angeles. Later, he became the head chef at YUKIYU Restaurant in Puerto Rico, where he worked to spread the love for Japanese cuisine across the Caribbean.
Curious about Latin culture, Junji traveled through South America while working at Sushi Hana in Chile, sharing Japanese food and learning about local flavors along the way. After returning to the States, he joined MATSUHISA Aspen—the famous Nobu Matsuhisa restaurant—before moving on to KOI Restaurant in Los Angeles as a second chef.
Eventually, he opened his own spot, TAWADA Café, which he ran for seven years before closing it when the lease ended. Taking a break to recharge, Junji spent a year traveling through Asia and Europe. At the end of that journey, he discovered Niseko, Hokkaido—and instantly knew it was where he wanted to build his next chapter.
In December 2016, J’s Corner Grill opened right in front of JR Kutchan Station. Here, Junji brings together his global experience to serve up hearty, flavor-packed comfort food—like 100% Aussie beef burgers, authentic tacos, and empanadas—with his own Japanese twist.

東京JR (旧国鉄) 系列の結婚式場にてフレンチ・シェフとしての経歴をスタートさせ、20代半ばで渡米。ロサンゼルスをベースに、”ハワイ・江田屋”の開店に携わり、その後、カリブ海、プエルトリコの”YUKIYU・レストラン”にてヘッドシェフとして寿司、プエルトリコ国内の日本食の普及に努める。
その後、ラテン文化に興味を持ち、南米チリ、’すし花”にて日本食文化を広めながら南米諸国を旅する。アメリカに戻った後、全米有数のスキーリゾートで有名なコロラド州・アスペンの”MATUHISA”(松久)で、すしシェフとして従事。
LAの”KOI・レストラン”にて2ndシェフとして勤務後、独立。”TAWADA Cafe”を開業し、7年間の営業後、店舗リース契約終了を機に已む無く閉店。リフレッシュを兼ねて1年間のアジア、ヨーロッパへ自分探しの旅に出発。旅の最後に訪れた北海道ニセコに魅せられ2016/6に倶知安町似て開業を決意。
2016年12月8日、JR倶知安駅前似て”J’s Corner Grill”をオープン。OZビーフ100%のハンバーガー、本場仕込みのタコス、エンパナーダ、etc.に日本人シェフのエッセンスを加え、お気軽に食べられるアメリカン、中南米の味覚を提供して参ります。どうぞ、宜しくお願いいたします。
